ABOUT ME

Lisa VandenBerghe

Hello and bienvenue! I’m a Seattle native living out my château-DIY dreams in the heart of rural France. Nestled in the middle of wine country, Maison de Chastenay is both my passion and my ever-evolving project. I spend my days bringing this beautiful old home back to life—yes, much of the renovation is hands-on! Mine, friends and family!—and my evenings often find me diving into the fascinating life and writings of Victorine de Chastenay, a brilliant femme de lettres and former owner of the house.

After three years of love and hard work, Maison de Chastenay is well on its way to becoming the welcoming retreat I’ve always imagined. Three guest rooms are now open, and my dream kitchen is ready for breakfasts, long table dinners, and lively catered gatherings.

I’ve also turned a lifelong passion into a business: Tissus Anciens, where I reproduce antique French printed fabrics that I’ve collected over the years from the 18th and early 19th centuries. With a background in historical material culture and experience creating period costumes, I’ve designed these fabrics to be as authentic as they are versatile—perfect for heritage interiors, museums, historical reenactments, or simply adding a touch of timeless charm to modern fashion and homes.

Come along for the journey—there’s always something new unfolding at Maison de Chastenay!
